Beginner Driver Education Course

A common sense solution for those who wish to learn to drive manual as well as get their Beginner Driver Education Course certificate.

12 hours of private, one-on-one, in-car instruction split as follows:

  • 8 hours in an automatic vehicle (with an Ottawa Driving School instructor) where the focus is on rules of the road, defensive driving, and road test preparation.

  • 4 hours of expert manual shift training where the student is taught how to handle a “stick shift” correctly and safely (with a ProShift instructor working under contract with Ottawa Driving School).

(The Course includes 20 hours of in-class or online instruction)

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be certified through the MTO. This certification is recognized by the Insurance industry (it may lower your rate), and it allows you to shorten the waiting time for the Level 1 road test to 8 months (instead of one year). For more information, please contact Ottawa Driving School (see below).

Note: ProShift does not provide the Ministry-Approved Driver Education Course and does not instruct holders of a G1 driver's license. The ProShift instructor providing manual shift training as part of that program does so under individual (personal) contract with Ottawa Driving School, a Ministry-Approved driving school, and the student must be registered with ODS.
